How does Mobileye keep drivers safe?

To achieve the high standards we set for collision avoidance and driver safety, Mobileye uses a one-of-a-kind artificial vision sensor in three easy steps.

Step 1. VIEW

The sensor views the road ahead and identifies:

  • Vehicles

  • Pedestrians

  • Cyclists

  • Lane Markings

  • Speed Limit Signs

Step 2. GATHER

Gathering all of this information allows the system to continuously measure the distance and relative speed of your vehicle in relation to other vehicles and pedestrians, the location of the vehicle relative to the lane markings, and the speed of the vehicle. This consistent gathering of information is tracked and measured over and over again.


The system then determines if there is a potential danger and then warns the driver with visual and audible alerts.

The visual and audible alerts are uniquely positioned to address some of the main causes of collisions singled out by major automotive safety organizations. In fact, studies by the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute indicate that:

  • 93% of the accidents investigated in the study were due to human error, with driver inattention being the primary cause.

  • Nearly 80% of crashes and 65% of near-crashes involved some form of driver inattention within three seconds before the event.

  • 40% of rear­end collisions have no brake application whatsoever.

  • 60% of road accident fatalities are due to unintentional lane departure.

What can it do?

The Mobileye Advanced Driver Assistance System analyzes the risk of forward collision, lane departure, headway/following time, excessive speed and pedestrian hazards. When a threat is detected, Mobileye warns the driver with visual and audible alerts – in real time – providing the critical seconds needed to possibly avoid, or mitigate, a collision.

Forward Collision Warning, including Urban Forward Collision Warning

Alerts drivers of an imminent rear-end collision with a car, truck, or motorcycle.

  • Red vehicle icon warns of an imminent rear­-end collision up to 2.7 seconds in advance.

  • Active at any speed.

Headway Monitoring & Warning/Following Time

Helps drivers maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead of them, providing visual and audible alerts if the distance becomes unsafe.

  • Displays the amount of time, in seconds, to the vehicle in front when that time becomes 2.5 seconds or less.

  • Green vehicle icon signifies safe following time, red icon signifies unsafe.

  • Active above 19 MPH.

Lane Departure Warning

Monitors lane markings and alerts drivers with visual and audible warnings when a lane deviation occurs without proper signal notification.

  • Active over 35 MPH.

  • Signals right/left lane icon as appropriate.

Pedestrian & Cyclist Detection & Collision Warning

Notifies the driver of a pedestrian or cyclist in the danger zone, and alerts drivers of an imminent collision with a pedestrian or cyclist.

  • Active under 31 MPH (can be increased to 43.5 MPH), giving the driver time to react and take corrective action.

  • Red pedestrian icon warns of an imminent collision.

  • Operational during daylight hours only.

Speed Limit Indicator

The Speed Limit Indicator recognizes and reads speed limit signs, allowing the system to notify the driver if the vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit.

  • Speed limit flashes on EyeWatch.

  • Active at any speed, but only with a clear lane of travel that exceeds 3 seconds of following time.

  • Secondary to all other alerts.

Intelligent High Beam Control

No need to worry about impairing another driver’s vision with high beam control that automatically turns on/off the high beams depending on the level of light and relative distance from other traffic.

  • Green icon signifies the control is enabled.

  • Blue icon signifies the feature is active

Turn Signal Reminder

Alerts the driver if one or both blinkers remain active for an extended period of time.


Low Visibility Indicator

Notifies the driver during low visibility conditions. The system will continue to work, however, its ability to detect may be limited.
